SQ3R Survey Question Read Recite Review Survey Look at headings and subheadings. Look at bold print and italicized words. Look at pictures, graphs, charts and maps. QUESTION Turn chapter headings and subheadings into questions. Read the questions at the end of the chapter or section. How does the reading relate to class work and other assignments? What do you already know about the topic? READ Now it is time to read the chapter. Use the survey strategies when you read. Use the question strategies when you read. RECITE Read one section at a time. Then use one or more of these techniques: Make up questions and answer them. Summarize in your own words. Underline or highlight. Read difficult passages aloud. REVIEW Look over the chapter within 24 hours. Look over the chapter again about one week later. Welcome to this power point video cast and HST and three I method of text book reading . my knee is still in turn to and Heidi will be guiding you through this video cast which is paid by the Academic Support Center at Westchester Community College . . book reading can be rather overwhelming and intimidating . there is so much information . QPR . the method that gives you a plan of action . this will help you to organize the information so that you are not trying to be done remember everything all at the same time . you thought about how to read a text book . if you haven't you are not alone . Many students just open the book to the assigned chapter and start to the . Believe it or not there are better way . he and his three are method is one way to the text book more effectively . not to cope to lend so let's get started and look at each of these action steps one at a turning . survey . the survey . start by looking at the headings and subheadings in the chapter . look at where it can be in bold print and word that are italicized . look at the PKK graphs charts and man . the text book but calling your attention to the most important information in the chapter . the most important information is emphasized in the sway . you can get it GOOD Oprah few of the chapter by spending a few minutes surveying before he begin to read . question . Q is for question . bringing chapter headings into questions helps you to be an active learner . he could steal into a ready position . just as there is a ready position when you are playing sports . this is a ready position when you are reading . do this each time you begin a new assignment . also read the questions at the end of the section like chapter first . this will help you to recognize what is important when you are reading the section or attacked . yourself how the assignment relates to the other work the Q a doing in class . Ask yourself what you already know about the topic . . . read .
