Welcome to Teach Me High
School's technology use plan presentation.
After looking through what we have and thinking
about where we want to go, we decided to have
a meeting so we can collaborate on where we
want to focus our technology energy this year.
I scoured through the National Technology
education plan NTEP and looked for areas where
we could change to better meet the
expectations that are being put on us at the
national level.
Please stay tuned to hear about why we need to
do a schoolwide plan
Please stay tuned to hear about why we need to
do a schoolwide plan
and how I see us achieving one.
Rationale
We need a technology use plan so that we can
be organized and efficient about how we use our
limited technology funds. Plus we need to
have everybody's input about where to best
place
technology in our limited size school.
Our planning team is one member from each
department
minimum
one administrator (from) minimum
the Tech coordinator for the school
one parent representative minimum one member
of the funding agency, if applicable, or a board
member
and anybody else who wants to volunteer his or
her time
Our Process Description
We're going to meet every Wednesday at 4:30
PM in the library.
First we will assess what we already own and is
still working
Meanwhile we'll issue a survey
to all stakeholders asking what their wish list is
and why they want to use that particular
technology.
After we have our list of needs and wants, we
will look at what space is available and prioritize
how
to invest in new equipment and /or what to
upgrade and repair.
Our plans goals and objectives for small
hardware:
Do we want to have students access the Internet
with mobile devices like iPads or tablets?
If so, will we provide the hardware and how will
we manage it?
On our needs assessment survey to parents we
should ask them what they think they can
contribute or toward helping their child be
connected online.
How do we want to reach the NTEP goal of
ensuring that every student has at least one
Internet access device and appropriate software
resources for research, communication,
multimedia content creation
and collaboration for use in and out of school.
For larger hardware
Do we want to explore getting some smart
boards?
What direction do we want to go in to help
students connect with information?
Do we need Smart Boards to demonstrate how
they can set up blogs or where to go to connect
with students at other schools?
Would we use more interactive classroom
software if we had a Smart Board for projection?
And what about that software...
The National Technology Education Plan NTEP
urges schools to utilize the positive aspects of
doing work online as well as open source,
or free, materials.
How do we see ourselves getting our students to
be literate with blogging, academic discussion
forums
Wikis or other academic-centric technology that
exists
online.
Long range plans
Where do we want to go with our technology
plan? How far out do we want to plan?Where do
we see ourselves in a year? in two?
What will go into the needs assessment survey
Who are you?
teacher? administrator?
For those who work at the school, what
technology do you currently use?
What technology hardware or software do you
wish you had access to
in your room? in a tech center? in the library?
How would you use the technology you seek?
Are you interested in expanding your class to
have an onine component?
What are your professional development needs?
Other than at school where do you get
technology training?
For those who access technology outside the
school or related to the school like
parents, community members
Please describe how you use the school's web
site.
How often do you check student grades in
Power School?
Does your student have an acc.. have access to
a computer at home? a printer? Internet access?
High speed?
How do you see the school being a part of
helping your child meet their technology needs?
Does your child have mobile access technology
like a smart phone, iPad, tablet with Internet
access or something similar?
Would you accept the responsibility for
maintaining mobile access technology if the
school checked out equipment to you?
Note: if lost or damaged you would be expected
to replace the cost of the technology in full.
For faculty/ staff development we need a Google
certified teacher on staff. If you would like to
attend the Googlel teacher academy
shoot me an e-mail
For more on staff development
??? We're going to do hybrid classroom training
over a year... we're going to take over a year to
do a training at least once a month
to introduce hybrid technology and show
examples of how teachers can incorporate use
of Moodle, or other LMS, in their classes.
We will continue to offer workshops on how to
maintain your own website for your classes.
And for specialized
technology training
If we get smart boards or the equivalent
we're going to teach the teachers who will be
using the specialized technology how to use it.
We're going to share ideas on how to
incorporate it into lessons they may already do.
We'll continue the standard Power School/
Power Teacher trainings.
Is there a better way we can use Power Teacher
to give us data for when we make decisions?
At the end of the school year
that the technology was introduced,
we're going to run a formal survey to assess the
usefulness of what was bought.
We'll get students to evaluate how their classes
have changed because of access to technology.
Those in a hybrid class, how has their learning
style changed, if at all?
Going to ask parents
if they have seen improvements with how their
children interact with technology.
Do they find their children are doing more
academic work online than they were doing at
home before we encouraged teachers to
introduce online access to their classes.
For our timeline
We're looking at August to do the needs
assessment and inventory of what was usable
this year
September look at data from the needs
assessment and inventory
from October to December discuss where to
emphasize our money and time allocations.
We're going to choose and research equipment
or other purchases.
January- put in purchase orders for chosen
equipment, and in the spring semester as
technology becomes available, start to use it.
The timeline for staff training
We're going to hold PowerSchool /Power
Teacher training in August and September
How to run your own website trainings in
October and November
We're going to start doing hybrid classroom
training in December with the idea that some
spring semester classes will do some level of
hybridization
and continue the trainings on how to incorporate
the web into your classroom
Thank you for your time and for your attention
Have a great day!
