Literature Criticism Online is an excellent
resource for users interested in literary
criticisms. The database contains the content
of four print series: Children’s Literature Review,
Nineteenth Century Literary Criticism, Twentieth
Century Literary Criticism, and
Contemporary Literary Criticism. The database
format makes finding useful articles much more
efficient and user friendly.
To begin searching in Literature Criticism Online
you can type the name of an author or work into
the search field. You also may want to narrow
your search to one particular series if you know
which will contain your author/title.
The search results screen lists all of the entries
that contain your search terms. They can be
author overviews or work overviews. Clicking on a
title takes you to a PDF version of the entry. You
can use the arrows to browse through the text,
or the Titles Discussed link to find relevant
information.
When you find useful material, you can use the
print/view PDF option to print out either the
entire entry (which can be quite lengthy) or just
the relevant pages. Or you can email the
document to yourself.
The database also provides a source citation to
help you when citing the entry, but be sure to
double check the citation with any materials
your professor has given you or the Writing
Center.
