But where sin increased, Romans 5:20a grace increased all the more, Romans 5:20b grace_candle_logo.jpg “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. No one, sir, Then neither do I condemn you Go now and leave your life of sin. John 8:1-11 The Law GuiltY Sanctification Romans 6: Principles of Sanctification Romans 7: Preventions to Sanctification Romans 8: Power and Person of Sanctification Flying dove.gif It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: 1 Thessalonians 4:3a +the+apostle+Paul+teaching.jpg ???!!! I’ve got to write this one down! Well if grace is that great, can’t we show it is all the greater by sinning even more? What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? Romans 6:1 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Romans 6:2 Jesus.jpg 000811354XSmall-baptism%20in%20lake.JPG Romans 6:3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Romans 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— y/file/leadership/lm60.jpg Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. Romans 6:8 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore… do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, Romans 6:12,13a SIN but rather offer yourselves to God, Romans 6:13b Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, Romans 6:19b so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. Romans 6:19c nding20chains20broken20freedom20from20slavery.jpg But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, Romans 6:22 carrying the cross.png the benefit you reap… leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23a but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23b g What holds us back from Sanctified Living? Romans 7 wYAjkM/TI7LIflqL9I/AAAAAAAADww/f6mArhkpuOA/s1600/football+kid.jpg Not dying to the Law Not walking in the Spirit Not recognizing the war within +the+apostle+Paul+teaching.jpg It’s like I’m talking to a wall! How can I make him understand? Well, why can’t I make sure I’m OK with God by obeying the law and then if GRACE is real, all the better! Romans 7:1 Do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to men who know the law—that the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives? /Z_RC.jpg “Authority of Law” By James Earle Fraser U.S. Supreme Court Building For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, Romans 7:2a but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. Romans 7:2b “You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.” “I have no husband,” John 4:16-18 So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. Romans 7:3a “Go, call your husband and come back.” But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man. Romans 7:3 So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, Romans 7:4a that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. Romans 7:4b For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. Romans 7:5 jpg But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law Romans 7:6a so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code. Romans 7:6b Trying to have it both ways! It just doesn’t work! +the+apostle+Paul+teaching.jpg Hmmm… Maybe it does sound like that. I guess I’m going to have to tell him my own story… You must be insane! Are you trying to tell me that God’s Law is SIN ITSELF? old_testament_law.jpg What shall we say, then? Romans 7:7a Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. Romans 7:7b Romans 7:7c Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, eye.jpg But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. Romans 7:8a Taking oath.jpg For apart from law, sin is dead. Romans 7:8c 1024x768 Speed limit 40 For apart from law, sin is dead. Romans 7:8c 52520STOP-bigger.jpg Once I was alive apart from law Romans 7:9a but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. Romans 7:9b http://douglowell.files.wordpre I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death. Romans 7:10 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death. Romans 7:11 -of-scripture.jpg So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good. Romans 7:12 2.gif Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! But in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful. m/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/judge.jpg Romans 7:13 g We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. Romans 7:14 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. Romans 7:15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. Romans 7:16,17 pg Romans 7:18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. pg Romans 7:19,20 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work… Romans 7:21 When I want to do good evil is right there with me / = ME! For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. Romans 7:22,23 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! Romans 7:24,25a So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin. Romans 7:25b -who-are-in-Christ-Jesus.gif
