Raising of Lazarus 11 12-20 What did Jesus know at the Last Supper? His time had come to go to the Cross All power has been given to Him He was going to return to Father Judas was to betray Him within minutes His disciples were arguing about “greatness” His disciples were going to soon be in crisis John 13:4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. John 13:5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. Peter’s Response Me too? Never! Wash all of me! Jesus’ Response I You don’t understand… yet! Without a bath, you have no part in me If you’ve had a bath, you only need your feet washed Jesus’ Response II Now you understand what greatness in the Kingdom of God is all about Now, do the same You will be blessed if you do I will be betrayed, so you’ll know it was not an accident, but a fulfillment You have my authority! John 13:27 As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. "What you are about to do, do quickly," Jesus told him, John 13:30 As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night. thinking_about_the_future.jpg When he was gone, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once. "My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. John 13:31-33 Now is the son of man glorified I will be with you only a little longer Where I am going you cannot come John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." LOVING ONE ANOTHER IS JOB ONE! Would anyone look at your life and recognize you a follower of Jesus because of your love for other Christians? Amy A. Top Story John 13:35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Lord, where are you going? Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later." John 13:36 The LOOK… of love… Lord, where are you going? Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you! Then Jesus answered, "Will you really lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times! John 13:38 Could I deny Jesus? By myself, YES… Fully ARMORED, NO… Lord, why haven’t you shared your plans with me? Lord, why can’t we do it my way and in my timing? Lord, you know I am fully committed to you (at least on Sunday mornings, otherwise I am too busy)! God why have you left me so alone? John 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. Jesus the Son = God the Father What does it really mean to TRUST IN GOD? John 14:2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. Rev 21:10 The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. Rev 21:15 Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb. The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. He measured its wall and it was 144 cubits thick, by man's measurement, which the angel was using. Rev 21:16,17 1500 miles cubed 2,250,000 square miles per floor (Continental U.S. = 3,000,000 mi2 ) Assume ~100 feet per floor 50 floors per mile 75,000 floors 1 mile square estates per person 3.4 billion estates! Mile square park Fountain Valley, CA John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. Rick’s place Are you clinging to this… Or looking forward to this… You are all invited! John 14:4 You know the way to the place where I am going. John 14:5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Me God John 14:7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Seen Jesus = Seen the Father John 14:8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." Cleft in the rock Exodus 33:18-20 Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory." And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." John 14:9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? John 14:10,11 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. Seen Jesus = Seen the Father I’m in Father… The Father’s in me My words = Father’s Work Proof #1 = His miracles John 14:12-16 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. "If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- Advantages of Jesus leaving… I’ll be preparing a place for you You will do even greater things You can ask for anything in My Name and I’ll give it to you I’ll give you another counselor forever! If you love me, you’ll obey what I command OBEYING HIS COMMANDS IS JOB TWO! John 14:17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him
