CBS Hebrews-logo2 CBS The Supremacy of Christ October 17th 2011 Chapters 4:14 to 5:10 Priests… Why do we need one? http://stjohnsandweecare.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/names-of-Jesus.jpg priest ascending%20temple.jpg Jewish high priest.png Jewish Priesthood High Priest THE_GOSPEL_OF_JOHN-12.jpg The Trial of Jesus jesus_the_high_priest__and_the_ark.jpg Jesus Our Great High Priest jesus_the_high_priest__and_the_ark.jpg Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Throne of God 6 And they are Shadows of this Reality Hebrews 8:5 jesus_the_high_priest__and_the_ark.jpg So how is Jesus’ Priesthood greater than the one the Jewish believers understood? priest.jpg Hebrews 5:1-4 Every high priest is… selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, priest.jpg Hebrews 5:1-4 as well as for the sins of the people. But God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” Psalm 2:7 Jesus high priest.png Hebrews 5:6-8 And he says in another place, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Tableau_Gethsemane.gif Hebrews 5:9,10 And he says in another place, Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek Melchizewho? at calvary.bmp Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. Shinar Elam Ellasar Goiim? Sodom & Gomorrah Genesis 14:1,2 They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom. One who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram. Genesis 14:12,13 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan. During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. Genesis 14:14,15 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people. After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley). Genesis 14:16,17 Abraham and Melchezedek Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, Genesis 14:18 Priest and King Tell him this is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the LORD. It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.’ Zechariah 6:12,13 AbrahammeetsMechilzedek Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.
