To view, print and annotate your pdf proof, Elsevier
recommends that you use Adobe Reader version XI (or
higher).
Adobe Reader is free to download from the Adobe
website.
You can use it on a whole series of platforms, including
PC, Mac, and UNIX.
The exact system requirements are given at this section
of the Adobe site.
Click Comment to start annotating your PDF proof. If this feature is not shown in your Adobe Reader menu,
you may be using an earlier version than Adobe Reader
XI.
The Comment feature consists of a task pane These icons allow you to make changes such as
inserting, replacing, or removing text.
To insert text into your PDF proof, click the Insert Text
icon on the Comment tool bar.
Then, click to set the cursor where you want to insert the
text.
A comment box appears automatically. Type the text you want to add. You can also cut and paste text from another file into the
comment box.
Close the comment box by clicking the icon in the top
right-hand corner.
To replace text in your PDF proof, click the Replace
(Ins) icon on the Comment tool bar.
To highlight the text you want to replace, click and drag
the cursor over the text.

Elsevier recommends that you view (grey) halftones
(such as photographs, micrographs, etc.) on screen
rather than in print.
The reason for this is your local printer may not be
capable of printing the greys correctly.
If your PDF proof contains colour images and you can't
access a local printer, it's unlikely that you'll reproduce
the colours in the images correctly on the printer
The reason for this is that local variations can occur. If you print your PDF proof, you may notice some ‘non-
standard’ output.
If this happens, please check if the problem is present
on screen.
The printer output will be distorted if the correct printer
driver for your printer is not installed on your PC.
