The calculate feature of the calculator allows us
to find a maximum or minimum value of a
function.
To do that, we will start by pressing second and
then calculate.
That particular function has a maximum value. So
choose option 4.
I'm asked to arrow to the left side of the graph.
So, I need to arrow to the left of that maximum
value.
Just so my cursor is anywhere on the left. Enter.
Now I need to be on the right of that maximum
value.
Enter
Take a guess. So it's somewhere close to this.
Enter
This is telling me that the maximum value of the
function is 5
and that occurs when X is 3 and a little bit more. I
happen to know that this is calculator round off
error and this occurs occasionally.
The coordinates of the maximum value are
actually 3 and 5
not this number that appears and we have to be
aware of that. So the maximum value of the
function is 5 and that happens when X is 3.
