Hello, this is Terri from the Writing Center. Today I'm going to show you how to create a Works Cited page using MLA, 9th edition. I will be using Microsoft Word 2007, but the same features do apply in earlier (or newer) versions. If you have an earlier or newer version, your screen may look slightly different than mine. This tutorial also assumes that you have already written your paper. And you've included in-text citations within the paper. And now you just have to create your Works Cited page. MLA format does require the Works Cited page to be on a separate page. You can do this by after typing your paper, going to the Insert tab, and selecting Page Break. Once you're on your Works Cited page, go back to the Home tab, under the Paragraph section, select Center. You'll type in the words "Works Cited" (Note: No quotation marks should be on the actual reference) Press Enter, and left justify the text underneath the Works Cited heading. MLA also requires that you use hanging indents for your bibliographic entries. You can do this also through the Paragraph section. Select the down arrow next to the Paragraph section. Everything under the spacing should stay the same. Select Double for the Line Spacing & select "Do not add spaces between paragraphs of the same style" But under Special, select Hanging indents. Go ahead and press Enter. You are now ready to type your MLA citations. The only time you're going to press enter is when you are ready to create a new citation. I hope you found this tutorial helpful! If you have questiosn, please email us at: KUWC@kaplan.edu
