Hello, and welcome to Distance Education at East Los Angeles College! I am Kerrin McMahan, Dean of Distance Education, and I would like to show you how to log in. There are two ways to log in to the ELAC course management system, ETUDES. First, from the ELAC homepage, here, find the link that says "Online Classes," click on it, Now go to the left and find the link that says "Course Login." Click on that. And finally, click in the box where it says "Click Here to Log-In Portal." And here we are. This is the ETUDES portal. Another way to get here would be to go to your browser's navigation bar and type in myetudes.org Both of these log-in methods will direct you to the ETUDES home page. After you are enrolled, you should have access to your online class the first day of the semester. You will notice at the top right a user ID box and a password box. Your user ID is the first two letters of your first name, plus the first two of your last name, followed by the last 5 digits of your student ID number. Your password is your birthdate, MMYY. Once logged into ETUDES, you will be on "My Workspace." Start with the "Tips and Information" in the box at right. Those will help you navigate the system. Now if you look at the top, you'll see, in addition to the tab that says "My Workspace," one or more tabs that should link to your online class or classes. Click on the name of the class you want to enter. You are now in your online course site. Your instructor has entered course content for you to review and follow throughout the semester. So take a few moments to browse through the class to become familiar with it. You should open each link on the left side of the page. I strongly suggest starting with the Syllabus. You should also open the Modules link. Modules is where you find detailed information about assignments and course content. I, for example, put lecture notes in my modules. If you click on Assignments, Tests & Surveys, you'll find the place where you take tests and submit assignments. Watch out for due dates! Discussion and Private Messages is the place for you to communicate with each other and instructor. If you want to send a Private Message to the instructor, click on Private Messages, click on New Private Message, select your instructor from the pull-down menu, type a message, click "submit" at the bottom. Another useful link is Gradebook. Here you will find your points in the class. No one else can see your points, and you can't see anyone else's. If you follow these guidelines, you'll probably feel a lot more comfortable with your class. If at any time you come across a problem, please contact your instructor right away! Don't wait! Once again, welcome and thanks for listening!
