Welcome to this Blackboard Training: Emailing Students within Blackboard, brought to you by the Center for Learning and Innovation. Email is an important way to communicate with students. Blackboard gives you the ability to send emails to individual students, a select group of students or an entire class. This training will demonstrate the steps to sending email through Blackboard. Written instructions for this training are available at the bottom of your screen. In the Course Menu, select the Email button. In the content area, you will see several email options appear, each with a short description of who would receive the email. Let us explore two commonly used options: All Student Users and Single/Select Users. First, select All Student Users. In the content area, you will see the email information. In the To: line, a list of All Student Users in the course appears. Next, in the From: line, your name and email address appear. Begin by typing a Subject. When the student receives this email, the subject line will include the name of the course followed by the text you typed on this line. Next, in the Message section, type the body of your email. By selecting the check box below the Message section, you enable the option to send a copy of this email to yourself. To attach files to this email, click Attach a File then Choose File. Next browse to the file you desire to attach and select Open. Review the email. If everything is correct, click Submit. Now that you know how to send an email to all of your students, you will learn how to send an email to one or more selected students. In the Course Menu, select Email to return to the Send Email screen. Click Single/Select Users. In the To: line, you will see the Available to Select list which includes all users with access to the course. To send an email to a single user, select the name and click the right arrow between the text boxes. The name will move into the Selected list. Select additional students in the same way. Compose the remainder of the email, as before, by typing a Subject and Message, selecting the option to send a copy to yourself, attaching files and clicking submit. This Center for Learning and Innovation Blackboard training has provided an overview of how you are able to send emails to individual students, a select group of students or an entire class using the email tool.
