Legionnaires' Outbreak at the Illinois Veterans Home - Adams County - Coordination, Collaboration and Communication

Shay Drummond, Tony Dede, Jon Campos - This panel will give participants an overview of a large-scale outbreak response that resulted in 53 confirmed cases of legionellosis that included 12 deaths among residents of a long-term care facility in the fall of 2015. Presenters will share the challenges and lessons learned, along with tools and strategies to navigate the intense information demand from the media, community partners and residents during a quickly evolving disease outbreak. This interactive session will give participants the opportunity to ask questions and learn best practices to enhance resiliency and response in future disease outbreaks and disaster response.
