Cohort members submitted technology implementation plans Implemented plans throughout the semester Project team helped facilitate projects Technology Implementation Plan Provide a brief overview of the course technology initiative that you will undertake for the Fall 2009 semester. What makes this initiative significant? In other words, how is this effort innovative in relation to your current or previous use of instructional technology in courses? How will this effort benefit students’ learning? List the course(s) that will be impacted by this effort. What specific technological tools (soft/hardware, etc.) and delivery methods will you employ? What broader impacts will this effort have outside of the course(s) for which you are initially implementing it? Faculty Course Technology Projects Faculty implemented wide range of projects, including: Producing an online pediatric nursing care case study (using Captivate) Incorporating classroom response systems (clickers) into lectures Bringing in remote guest speakers via Skype and Acrobat Connect Teaching new online courses Collaborating with an overseas class using a Wiki Producing (in collaboration with WNMU-TV) a series of video shorts on local Native American issues and customs Professor Patti Hogan Discusses her Fall Project This video can also be viewed online. Outcomes and Lessons Learned Outcomes & Lessons Learned Activities Kick-off workshops Very well received, excellent evaluations A little too intense Workshops and webinars Workshops more popular than webinars Scheduling an issue with webinars Many faculty stated that 12 was too many Conferences First time attending non-discipline specific conference for most faculty Most found something valuable/interesting Travel costs a challenge as budgets tighten Online community discussions Good discussions took place Monitoring and encouraging participation difficult Outcomes & Lessons Learned Activities All cohort meetings Very difficult to schedule Good exchange of ideas Individual monthly meetings Some faculty didn’t see value Project team still believes necessary Outcomes & Lessons Learned Activities Some followed plans closely Others evolved as semesters progressed A few went off the tracks (not coincidentally, these were produced by faculty who had habitually missed individual meetings) Outcomes & Lessons Learned Projects 1 cohort member dropped out in September; 13 continued for duration of CTIP 9 members completed both Fall & Winter projects 7 of 13 met sufficient commitments Other 6 demonstrated gains in educational technology utilization but had significant unmet commitments Designated “incomplete” and offered opportunity to complete participation by end of Fall 2010 semester Outcomes & Lessons Learned Cohort Took more time than anticipated Many reminders needed Scheduling a constant challenge Outcomes & Lessons Learned Project Management Conclusion Moving Forward CTIP pilot considered successful Funding received to offer a second year of program “CTIP II” Modifications Smaller faculty cohort (max 10; got 7) Focused on online course development & teaching Added Sloan-C workshops & conference option Modified requirements Fewer in-person workshops & webinars Dropped virtual community participation requirement (community still used) Added “Teaching Online @ NMU” online course Added option to substitute Sloan-C workshops for conference Questions & Discussion
