• LESSON 10 (June 15) • Romans 5:12-21 *** The Free Gift is Not Like the Trespass *** “More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” That’s where we left off in Romans 5:11. Each one of us deserves to bear the wrath of God. Not one of us can stand justified in his sight based on our family tree, circumcision, or the record of our own works. We have all fallen short of his glory. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. (3:21-22). Now, the choice is mine. How will I respond to the intervention of God through Jesus Christ? The terms are clear. The consequences are weighty. Jesus said to [Thomas], “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12). This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. (1 Tim 2:3-6).
