The rising costs of living present special challenges for older adults who depend on fixed incomes and retirement savings to meet their financial needs. In this webinar, speakers will identify the costs that senior homeowners encounter as they grow older – from healthcare to home repairs to daily expenses – and discuss methods for managing them by incorporating home equity into a financial plan. Leading retirement researcher Jamie Hopkins, an Associate Professor of Taxation at The American College, will explain different options for tapping home equity including downsizing, HELOCs, and reverse mortgages. Professor Hopkins will be joined by Barbara Howard, a nationally recognized gerontologist and adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport who understands the financial demands of aging in place, and Dan Hultquist, author of Understanding Reverse and the Education Committee Co-Chair of the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association who will discuss how reverse mortgages work and the new consumer safeguards for borrowers and spouses.
