PROVOST:  Welcome to the Provost Monday Minute, where  each week we present 1-3 things that you "otter" know in about a minute.    Yesterday was May Day, the halfway point between Spring and Summer, and the day by which admitted Otters declare themselves as committed Otters. Since May 1st fell on a Sunday, we're giving students a chance to submit who may have missed it. But, as of this morning, we have surpassed 1000 for both FTF and UDT who have committed to CSUMB. These are very good signs, but we will have work to do to minimize "melt". More on that as we approach summer orientation.   Next, there are a series of press conferences set this month to announce the CaliforniansForAll College Corps awards. CSUMB is one of  16 CSU campuses, and among 45 colleges and universities statewide, selected as a #CaliforniansForAll partner campus. This means that, for the 2022-23 academic year, up to 1,355 CSU students from partner campuses will benefit from a unique opportunity to gain valuable work experience and make a positive impact in their communities, while simultaneously earning money to help pay for their education. Students who complete a year of service will receive $10,000 ($7,000 stipend/living allowance, plus a $3,000 Education Award). Moreover, CaliforniansForAll College Corps is the first statewide service program available to AB540 eligible Dreamers. Congratulations to Dr. Pamela Motoike and the team in Service Learning for securing this significant funding.   Lastly, please join me in thanking Jennifer Hinds and Myrsha Garcia in the Provost's Office, along with all of the campus staff and the student volunteers from the Sustainable Hospitality Management program for orchestrating the outstanding Honors Convocation events last Saturday. Along with over 600 guests,  we celebrated 342 students for  consistent excellence in their academic performance.  Presidential and provost award recipients as well as dean's medalists were also recognized.
