PROVOST: Welcome to the Provost Monday Minute, where each week we present 1-3 things that you "otter" know in about a minute. May 7th was National College Signing Day. Post- pandemic behaviors are changing, and students continue to shop around. Like several CSU campuses, we have extended our deadline to commit as students continue to sign; our date is May 16. I also want to thank academic departments for their due diligence to ensure that modifications to the Fall 2022 schedule clearly meet student demand and secure enrollment. Next, in case you missed it, the following CSUMB student researchers earned first place at the 36th Annual CSU Student Research Competition at SFSU April 29-30, 2022: Nevan Bell (UG-PSYCH; Mentor-Jennifer Lovell), Ellre Villanueva-Ancheta & Lauren Frey (GRAD-MSPA; Mentor-Nicole Reichhart). The details of their works are on the Office of Graduate Studies and Research website. Congratulations to all of you! And finally, we encourage you to read through the Spring 2022 edition of IAR Insights, which explores high DFW courses and course GPA equity gaps. To address areas of concern in mathematics, the California Education Learning Lab has offered CSUMB an award of up to $100,000 for the project entitled "Increasing Student Success Through Faculty Engagement and Sustainable Professional Development", through the Learning Lab’s "Seeding Strategies to Close the Calculus Equity Gap" funding opportunity. Congratulations to Co-PIs Drs. Michael Scott, Alison Lynch and Jennifer Clinkenbeard in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics! Have great week Otters! It's eleven days until Commencement. See you, soon.
