Thanks so much for the videos. I've been tearing my hair out over working with Site/Topography/Coordinates and your videos have been sooo helpful. I'm trying to set up a site file + building model file separately mostly because I'm new and don't know what I'm doing and site landscaping, etc seem like something I could really screw up. One thing I still haven't found anywhere is about how to import/link a site dwg file on the Site Level which seems to be what most people say you should do. Both default project templates I've tried (Standard Imperial Template + Residential Template) don't give Site as an option in the Import CAD Formats Dialogue box Place At: drop down menu. And then I can't change the constraints in the Element Properties Dialogue after import either. If you are on the Site Level when you import/link the file does it land there or does it go to the Level specified in the Place At: option? If you were taking a poll, I'd vote for a video on this issue. Thanks again.

I think this Site dwg business is starting to sink in. I was just back on AUGI reading more posts and I realized because when you import the site dwg you're not supposed to check the "current view only option" so I think that means it gets pasted in all the views. So then what is the Place At: option for? And do you have to be on Site Level when you import it or can you be anywhere? I'm going to go back to AUGI and post this question. I just realized you are the AUGI Revit Forum manager. Thanks for all the info you've put out there. It's so helpful.

Hi, glad you liked the videos!

The Site view is based on Level 1 in the stock Revit templates. When you import a civil plan you do want to put it on the "lowest" level (that represents sea level). You don't want to check the "current view only" option because that will prevent you from creating a toposurface from the imported contours. Other files like floor plans usually should use the option so they don't show up in many views unnecessarily. Hope this helps!
