Student Staff Selection Information Sessions Helps clarify the process Explains the position Current RA’s describe personal experience Question/Answer session Application Process: Cover Letter Briefly describe why you are interested Detail skills you can offer to the position/department Describe qualities that make you right for the job Connect 2-3 qualities you possess that relate to the position Explain what you would gain & what the department would gain from your candidacy Ask for an interview Make sure you hand in your cover letter with your resume (email ORLHiring@philau.edu) If you need help, visit Career Services or check online: http://www.philau.edu/career/st udents/tools.html Application Process: Resume No more than 1 page, 2 pages maximum List your education List related volunteer experience(s) List previous work experience(s) If many, use only ones relevant to the position Make sure you hand in your resume with your cover letter (email ORLHiring@philau.edu) If you need help, visit Career Services or check online: http://www.philau.edu/career/students/tools.html Application Process: Application Complete online application (https://www.philau.edu/reslife/employment/ ) Have references selected and their e-mail addresses available Make sure all information is correct before you submit Process begins in mid-November, materials due in February 2 deadlines: (1) Completed application & (2) application materials (cover letter, resume, recommendations forms) Application Process: Application Sample Application Process: Letters of Recommendation 3 professional references Pick references carefully! References should be able to communicate your professionalism, work ethic, and skills Provide e-mail addresses of references Interview Process: Group Interview Candidates are evaluated on how you work in a group setting Dress professionally Bring a writing utensil Be yourself Do not be afraid to speak up! Interview Process: Individual Interview Come prepared to discuss past experiences and how they relate to the RA position Attend interview preparation workshops offered by Career Services & Residence Life in late January Be yourself Dress professionally To be on-time, candidates should arrive 5-10 minutes earlier than scheduled interview Still Need Help?
