Title: Writing for Mobile Devices
Description: Date: The talk was presented on October 20, 2009 on the Microsoft campus in Redmond, WA. Speakers: Co-presented by Teresa Goertz and Jim Causey, writers on the Windows Mobile team at Microsoft. Sponsor: The talk is part of the monthly meeting series hosted by the Puget Sound Chapter -- Society for Technical Communication. Deliverable: The talk is presented as a screencast with accompanying audio. Synopsis: Jim and Teresa give an in-depth look at how the content publishing team working on Windows phones (and to a lesser extent, Windows Embedded) approach writing throughout the product lifecycle of a Windows Moble operating system designed for mobile phones. Jim presents his point of view as a programming writer while Teresa focuses on her team's approach for customer-facing documentation. The main points covered in this talk apply to all technical communicators who write not just for mobile phones but for any handheld device.
