This was 'importing' a video into Powerpoint.
Your method leaves the video as an OLE and so the video must remain on the user's system.
The question was...how do I "embed" a video..."embed", which means the video is completed contained within the Powerpoint file.

Exatly, this is very hard to find in the web... embed means the file is contained in the powerpoint file, not pointing to a path in your hard drive

I notice you are inserting an mp4 video format. I am having trouble with getting my mp4 file inserted. According to Powerpoint official website, it can only play Quicktime mp4 files. When I try to insert my mp4 video I get the following caution: "Powerpoint cannot insert a video from the selected file. Verify that the necessary 64-bit codec for the media format is installed." Can you tell me how to resolve this issue?

According to Microsoft, all Mac OS versions of PowerPoint support MP4 file. For Windows, PowerPoint 2007 and lower version only support WMV, AVI, ASF, and MPG(MPEG-1) video formats, PowerPoint 2010 and higher added the support for MP4 format if you have Apple QuickTime player installed.

Converting your file to WMV(with WMV8 codec), AVI(with some ancient codec) or MPG format, is the most reliable way to ensure that you can add it to PowerPoint slide and the video is play-able even if you send your ppt to other people or play it on other machine.
