DeBoer on TRIA 2014 DLA Piper.mp4

Real Esate Roundtable President and CEO Jeffrey DeBoer emphasized the urgent need for Congress to reauthorize the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) in an interview with DLA Piper at their 2014 Global Real Estate conference in Chicago. Given the diverse threats facing the U.S. — including ISIS and cyber-attacks — DeBoer said congressional inaction on TRIA “would be devastating for liquidity issues, for financing, refinancing . . . just doing business in America.” “How can we expect businesses to go forward, and to operate without the full backing of insurance?” he asked rhetorically. “How can we expect lenders to provide financing without insurance on these assets [or on] these business transactions?” Looking ahead to the post-election congressional session expected to begin in mid-November, DeBoer said he is “optimistic that we’ll get it accomplished, but it won’t be easy. It’s going to require all organizations — The Roundtable, the Chamber of Commerce, everyone — to contact their member of Congress and to urge support.”
