I am sorry I missed this presentation. As a photographer there is a saying: A visual element in a photograph either adds or distracts from the composition. It is never impartial. I believe it applies to UI design as well. Evaluate every element in your UI using the same criteria - it will create a cleaner user interface which will lead to a better user experience.
